90's TV Character Appreciation: Chuckie Finster

Chuckie Finster is perhaps one of the most beloved characters from 90's TV. He combined all that is awkward in life in one person: red hair, curly hair, glasses, freckles and a constantly stuffed up nose. (In the later, and less good version of the show, "All Grown Up!" he even has braces. Woof.) He was constantly worried about anything and everything, and was basically Tommy's buzzkill throughout the entire series. But he's also the most adorable of all of the Rugrats.

Horrible things consistently happened to him (Melville died, he got stuck in a mattress, he lost his glasses... the list goes on and on) and he always came out the other side relatively unscathed. For a baby- he was pretty resilient, and damn smart. Chuckie was actually the only one in the gang who had enough sense to constantly say "Maybe this isn't such a good idea, Tommy!" Because you know what- eating dog food wasn't such a good idea! (Season 3 reference. Come on guys!) Chuckie and Tommy were the original Shawn Hunter and Corey Matthews- the classic archetype of cool kid being best friends with a loser. It's never explained why they're best friends- they just are.

Chuckie really taught me that it's ok to be an unattractive loser. Your friends will still love you. Again, it's never explained why. They just will. Trust me and Chuckie on this one.

Sidenote: All I asked for one year for my birthday was a Chuckie Finster doll. (Not to be confused with a Chuckie doll. GHASP!) When I opened it on my birthday, I cried with happiness.
