Liveblogging: blink-182 "Neighborhoods"

blink-182 is one of my favorite bands of all time. I cannot even explain how much this band means to me. They were so influential on my childhood. I think Enema of the State was one of the first CDs I remember begging my Mom to buy me. She resisted because it was explicit, but ended up giving in. Thank God. blink-182 ended up being "my band" throughout most of my childhood. And now that they're back- ugh, I just want to cry, that's how happy I am.
Needless to say, I'm totally freaking out about their first release in eight years, Neighborhoods. (Click here to purchase on iTunes and here to listen on Spotify!) I'm just praying it's as amazing as I want it to be. So instead of sitting in my room listening to it by myself, I've decided to liveblog my experience. Lame and dorky, I know. But that first listen is always SO special. I wish I could remember what I thought the first time I listened to blink. I want to rewind to that day and take notes on how I felt. But since I can't do that today, I'm going to do it for this release. Here goes:

Track 1- Ghost On The Dance Floor- LAME NAME! It reminds me of Blood on the Dancefloor. They're a shitty band, right? I think so.
I think I'm going to cry. Where are the vocals? TOM!!!!
Oh my God. I'm crying. I'm a loser and totally okay with it. This is beautiful. It reminds me of Boxcar Racer. I don't know why. I think it's his pronunciation.
Catchy chorus. I'm going to be obsessed with this song.
I really like when they talk about kids. It makes me feel like a kid again, which I obvi like.
These lyrics are really sweet. I'm into this for sure.
This song is RAD. Holy shit. If every song is this awesome, I'm going to be very, very happy.

Track 2- Natives- Shredding on he guitar. TOM AGAIN! Prodigal son. Love it.
This is way less Boxcar Racer. More Blink. OMG MARK!!!!! Better off dead. These lyrics are everything I've ever said in my emo head. I'm never coming home- COME ON! How many times did I say that when I was 16?! This is siiiick. I'm fan girling.
Dude, their rises and falls are just as amazing as ever.

Track 3- Up All Night- Already obsessed with this song. Boom. Done. But I'm liking the flow so far... even though I'm only three songs in.

Track 4- After Midnight- My favorite time of day/night. Dude Tom is dominating this record. I don't hate it, even though I die for Mark.
The drumming on this record is HUGE. MARK MARK MARK! I love it when they trade off vocals, if I'm being honest.
These lyrics, man. I feel 16 again. I've missed this.
Ugh, this is amazing.

Track 5- Snake Charmer- Weird name, again. But I have a feeling these guys know what they're doing.
Deep inside her- HAY NOW!
Adam again. Weird. I wonder what that's about. Anyone know? I feel silly for not knowing.
Good girls, they like to sin. THESE LYRICS ARE AMAZING.
I'm being inarticulate and I'm so okay with that.
GANG VOCALS! Kind of. Maybe just background vocals. Regardless.
I cant hear them say The Starting Line and not think of the band. I feel like that's unintentional. Whatevs.

Track 6- Heart's All Gone Interlude- WHOA. What's the last album you can remember that has an interlude?!! I mean, mine's probably blink. I never understood the point. Is it like a pee break for the album? This reminds me of their self-titled. Very vacant sounding.
My parents are watching The New Girl in the background. It's making it hard to focus. If there's anything that trumps my love for Zooey Deschanel, it's blink.
But seriously an interlude? Pretty. But I'm- wait wait. Just got interesting. Like 1:40 mark. Kind of.

Track 7- Heart's All Gone- Oh I know this song! I like I like!! That's Mark, right? He sounds different. This is SO classic blink. Yay!!!!! This chorus is going to be stuck in my head for, like, ever.
Heavy guitar. Yeah.
This song is mad simple. That's a compliment.

Now I have to pee. Why couldn't this have happened during the interlude?!

Track 8- Wishing Well- Tommy boy's back! OMG. CHORUS. I LOVE. LADADADADADADA! See, My Chem- lyrical nonsense can actually be melodically interesting and add to a song!
Yeah this song is fun. Down for the cause.
The lyrics on this album are pretty serious, though. No talk of effing dogs in the ass yet.... yet.
Remember hidden tracks? Like, when that could even be a thing? Pre-iTunes. Those were the days.
And it's ovah!

Track 9- Kaleidoscope- Yeah, I didn't know how to spell that word. Thanks, Google! Hi, Mark!!
A/B-ing again. Into it!
I'm trying to figure out what this song is about. Their lives?
I'm going to have to listen to this one a few times.
Nice breakdown. DRUMS! (I don't know what else to say about them. Me typing drums in caps is basically me saying "Hey- those sound really good!")

Track 10- This Is Home- The guitars on this album sound awesome. Go Tom, go. Claps!!
F bombs!!! I-I-I! Yes!! Catchy as hell. This is home- adorable lyric.
Tom's vocals sound phenomenal on this album. I don't know the last time I actually used that word.

Track 11- MH 4.18.2011- What's that title about? Googling.
AH! Found the answer- here. Turns out it stands for Mark Hoppus- 4.18.2011- which is the day he came up with the idea for the song. Cute. Okay- time in on the song.
The worst is yet to come- yikes! I hope not.
This is kind of a bummer of a sing. But I don't mind that.
I have to say that I like the Tom dominated songs on this album more than the Mark ones. That makes me sad because Mark makes me giggle on Twitter. I should probably separate the two in my head.
Kind of classic blink, though. But not that interesting. Still- I like.
I don't think I can not like a song on this album. I just love them all already.

Track 12- Love is Dangerous- Just realized this is a long album. YAY! AWW A DUET!!!!!! YESSSSSS!
This is cute. I prefer simple lyrics. I get that some artists meander around and say shit all interestingly. But I love the fact that there's such simplicity in blink's lyrics, almost always. I mean, they can get complex, but they don't have to be.
Oooo! What did Mark just say in the background of the second chorus?
FOUND IT! (Also found out Fleetwood Mac has a song by the same title. No thanks.)
Love is dangerous
(Guys don't be fooled when she says it)
Love is so dangerous
(We'll betray the ones we care about)
Love is so dangerous
(We're fools, so we all pretend to fuck)
Love is dangerous

Interesting. Good song. Semi-sad.

Track 13- Fighting Gravity- SO CLOSE TO THE END. I DON'T WANT IT TO STOP!!! Ooo I think this is going to be a sad one.
This makes no sense- took me a sec to figure out what they were saying. I should be a professional lyric transcriber. Think that's a job?
Is he saying just drive? This song should have obvi been in Drive.
The song title reminded me of "Defying Gravity" from Wicked. For some reason I thought this would be just as theatrical.... It's not.
This is a different sound for blink. I don't hate it. It kind of reminds me of ominous songs off of their self-titled, but way more fucked up and weird. Uncharted territory!
This one's going to need a couple more listens.

Track 14- Even If She Falls- LAST SONG! WAHHHHHHHH!!!!! (That's my typed out Snooki impression.)
I wish I had blue/green eyes. I don't think anyone in blink-182 would ever date me. THAT'S OKAY- WE CAN STILL BE BFFS!!!
This is dope.
Another catchy chorus.
Nice bridge.
OH NO IT'S OVER!!!!!!!!!

Immediate thoughts post-first-listen: That was really, really, really, really, really awesome. I could listen to it over and over again. In fact, I think I will. It's going to make perfect driving music.
Favorite songs are "Ghost On The Dancefloor" "Natives" "Heart's All Gone" and "Snake Charmer." Oh, and "Wishing Well." Ugh, let's face it- I'm obsessed with the whole album.  I'm surprising myself here. I'm still really shocked, but I actually liked Tom's songs better than Mark's. But that's okay. I'm just happy the band is back together. BLINK'S BACK!!!!!!
I'm going to crawl back into my fan girl lair now.
