A Beautiful Day Of New Music

I love today. I loved yesterday. I love this week. It's gloomy outside & I have to give another presentation in class today. But I don't care. Life is awesome. Yesterday, the Music Gods bestowed upon us a plethora of beautiful new music. My ears are in Heaven. Three of my most anticipated albums of 2012 hit shelves (errrr iTunes), and they are even better than I had anticipated. SO HAPPY! Right now, my life is in a perpetual state of Christmas morning, but like on crack. The best part is that, of these three amazing records, I'm pretty confident you guys (my favorite people in the world) will like at least one of them. These three artists are so across the board, you're bound to dig one of the three. I promise. (Unless your music taste totally sucks, then you're on your own. I hear DMB is releasing a new record soon... Just, uh, wait for that.)

Fun. has produced the perfect indie-pop record that I'm already singing along to in the car constantly. It's been out for a day, literally. I don't even know all the words yet, and I'm mumbling fake words along because I love the record that much. It's that catchy. It's the perfect mix of pop choruses, epic drums, amazing breakdowns, & indie weirdness. You've probably heard the single "We Are Young" by now and fallen in love, as I have. But there are other cuts on the album that are just as strong as that song. "Carry On," "All Alright" and "Some Nights" are my other faves. And I can't forget "It Gets Better" which holds a special place in my heart. I'm just trying to decide if it's supposed to be an anthem for bullied youth or a song of butt sex encouragement. You be the judge:
"Yes, I know it hurts at first but it gets better. It gets better, it gets better. It gets better, we'll get better."
Come on, guys. You know it's about butt sex. And truth be told, that just makes me love Fun. even more.

If you only like pansy acoustic John Mayer music, read no further. You will probably dislike The Menzingers & Sleigh Bells. Also, you might suck. If you're willing to expand your horizons a little bit and get weird- LET'S DO THIS. The Menzingers are one of my favorite punk rock bands & their new album is their best yet. I'm currently in a serious debate with myself as to whether or not it's going to make my Top 5 Contemporary Punk Rock Albums list. I really think it might. It's nearly perfect from start to finish. Straight up aggressive gritty punk rock. It really reminds me a lot of Against Me! and Gaslight Anthem, in the best ways possible. Favorite tracks are "The Obituaries," "Good Things," and "Gates." If you are at all interested in heavy leaning music, you will heart this record big time \m/\m/

Sleigh Bells shred. End of story. They are the total badass King & Queen of noise pop that I will spend the rest of my life trying to befriend. (Unsuccessfully, most likely. I realize I'm just not that cool.) I was uber nervous about their sophomore album- I sincerely thought they'd succumb to the slump. But they sidestepped the slump and made a much more mature album. It's leagues more lyrically and musically complex than their debut album, Treats. It also doesn't have the same party anthem vibe. It's more ominous and vacant, if that's at all possible at 180 bpm. If I'm throwing a rager, I'll probably still put on Treats, but if I'm drinking by myself and/or blogging late at night, (Not that I do that. Don't drink and blog, kids!) I'll listen to Reign of Terror. There's the delineation. I know a lot of people aren't as obsessed with them as I am, and I'm totally okay with that. More metal pop noisy guitars for me. If you liked the first record, chances are 50/50 you'll like Reign Of Terror. As Seth Rogen would say, if you were a casino game, you would have the best odds! My favorite tracks are "Comeback Kid," "Road To Hell," and "Never Say Die."

Anybody else totally loving these records or have any other amazing new music recommendations?
