A very happy Daddy Q's birthday to you all! Yes indeed, April 3rd is my Dad's birthday! Didn't you all wake up knowing it was a super special day? I knew it! A lady never reveals her age, so I'm not going to tell you guys that my Dad is turning 87 this year. JK, totes not that old. But he is an awesome dude, and I realize sometimes I don't say that enough. Truth is, if you know me, you should probably know my Dad, too. I've literally had people meet him, and instantly turn to me and say "You make so much more sense as a person now." It's true! We're pretty similar. I get SO much of my personality from him. The sensible, rational side of me is totally my Mom. The loud, boisterous side of me is totally Jerry Q all the way. I mean, I got more than just my stunning good looks from this guy. Have to give credit where credit is due.
First of all, can we talk about the hair? TOTAL HIPPIE! I look at old pictures of my Mom & Dad and just wish I was alive in the 70s. The feathered hair, the bell bottoms, THE JORTS! Ugh, I would kill to have been born back then. I mean, look at that swagger! My Dad was quite the stud muffin back in the day, right??!! (My Mom wasn't half bad either!) Oh, have I failed to mention that my parents are high school sweethearts? Yes, they are. My Mom was a cheerleader & my Dad was totally from the wrong side of the tracks. I mean come on! It's like a Nicholas Sparks movie, but without the sad ending! Well, unless you count ending up with me as a daughter as a sad ending. (Which you might. I wouldn't blame you.) Ok for reals though, he's a grown man who shouts "THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID!" in public. Srsly. You want to know where I learned it? My Dad, OBVI! He's so extremely funny and just genuinely loves life. He tends to show this off by telling inappropriate jokes and then laughing loudly. I love that about him.
It's not all fun and games though. There's more to the man than his dazzling good looks and hilarious personality, GOD GUYS! I love the fact that my Dad is unconditionally supportive, willing to do almost anything for anyone he loves (like move me back and forth to NY a solid 6 times.), and most importantly he actually likes watching New Girl with me. Oh, and he has AMAZING taste in music- his new favorite song is "Rack City" by Tyga. Like, THAT'S how rad my Dad is. I can't say enough what a great human being my Dad is. He (along with my brothers) is the reason why I'll probably never get married. Finding a solid dude who will do the dishes, take care of the lawn, give you a pedicure (TRUTH!) and listen while you cry about having no direction in life IS IMPOSSIBLE! They don't make guys like that anymore. Truly amazing human being.
So, Dad, thank you for being you & making me me. Also, you only have yourself to blame when I'm 50, single and still living with you. Love you.
