An Unhealthy Obsession {Call Me Maybe}

Every once in a while, I get crazy obsessed over a song. Like- to the point where I listen to it 15 times a day. (That's totally a major underestimate. I'm low-balling you here so you don't think I'm bat shit crazy. In actuality, it's probably more like 50 times a day. GOD, THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG WITH ME!) But these attacks of obsession hit me and there's nothing I can do about it. Sometimes they're decent songs by credible artists. Recently it was "Marathon Runner" by Yellow Ostrich. SO GOOD! I'm totally okay with that. I am in no way embarrassed to blast that song through Olive's speakers. But then there was that period of time that I was balls to the wall obsessed with Selena Gomez's "Who Says" and literally played it through my speakers at work all day everyday. It quickly became a problem. Seriously. People started making fun of me. I had to listen to it quietly and mute it really quickly when people walked by so they didn't find out about my obsessive listening. Sometimes I would get to work really early and blast it. I'd be singing along by myself when someone would walk by and I'd have a mini-panic attack. There's really no going back once someone has seen you fist-pumping to Selena Gomez.

Well, the newest cheesy pop song that has taken over my eardrums is this song called "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen. It's like musical herpes- I listened once and now the song is going to be with me FOREVER. I CAN'T STOP LISTENING TO IT!!! I put my Spotify on private and just go to town on this song. Ponytail swinging, fingers snapping, knees bending in all sorts of awkward positions. It's really gross and I don't know how to stop. I'm obsessed. The song is just so horribly amazing. Hilariously enough, the two dudes from Hoodwinked are feeling the exact same way about "Call Me Maybe." I'M NOT ALONE IN THIS! I watched this video and giggled the whole way through, knowing that I do the exact same thing! I get SO embarrassed to like a dorky song, and try to hide it from everyone. Like, some pop songs have an element of cool to them- liking Katy Perry or Lady Gaga won't get you made fun of in the cafeteria by the older kids. But CRJ (that's my abbrevs for my new fave person, Carly Rae Jepsen) has very little cool factor. AND I LOVE THAT ABOUT HER! Why can't we all live in a world where we run around singing lame pop songs together? I want that for my children, guys! Stand up for the rights of all cheesy pop songs out there!!!!!

I'm willing to admit that I love "Call Me Maybe" in a way that makes me totally uncomfortable. I'd also like to go on record and say that I like to listen to Miley Cyrus from time to time in the privacy of my headphones. Ummm and I've definitely cried a time or two to Demi Lovato's "Skyscraper." Not even embarrassed.

  1. Oh my god. I do the EXACT same thing. I hide my totally revolting/embarrassing listening habits from my boyfriend all the time. I'm so glad that I'm not the only one.
    Also: "There's really no going back once someone has seen you fist-pumping to Selena Gomez." So. Great. : )

  3. You are not alone! I'm totally the same, if I really love a song I can listen it on the loop for a week. I can also tell I listened "party in the USA" by Miley Cyrus because it just made me feel like dancing and smiling. And now you got me to this Call me maybe song! Haha. Another god one now is Lloy - dedication to my ex, even it has horrible lyrics, I cant stop listening it :) Yay!

  7. You are absolutely amazing!! I literally laughed all the way through the video and giggled through the post because I am the EXACT same way!!! I get caught (what i call "dancing") to the BBB STILL. When my friends come over I turn it off super quick, but one of my best friends caught me and was like... I LOVE THEM STILL TOO!! So now every time we go shopping together we crank up the 90s pop and scream to these songs together in the car (I can't believe I'm telling you this hahaha!)

  8. She sure does deliver catchy tunes! She was on Canadian Idol a couple of years ago, and was so lovely. Check out another one of her songs from a while back called Tug Of War(it was a hit here in Canada)

  10. YES! Cheesy pop songs are the best. I may have been like this with Miley Cyrus's "Party in the USA." You know, everybody makes fun of songs like this, yet oddly, they always know all the words!

  15. We'll talk about embarrassing when you're singing Nursery Rhymes over and over or realize you're singing Veggie Tales out loud as you are looking at lingerie (it gives me hope as it hangs in my closet) and that your husband has the kids!!!

    A young couple was watching me which is what drew my attention to it. I swear I'm walking birth control as she put down the nighty and walked away while he looked confused and gave me an irritated look. You're welcome sweetie! And, sorry dude.
