25 by 25 {Goals for the Upcoming Year}

Big news, world- I'm an adult now. Just kidding, not at all. But, as I blabbed on and on about on Monday, I turned 24 this past weekend. As much as I LOVED my birthday, I'm also having a mini-panic attack about getting a year older. I realize it's really disgusting for someone who isn't even old yet to spaz out about their age, and I'm totally aware that I'm doing that right now. BUT I DON'T CARE! I'm gross & annoying and that's just who I am. There is a huge part of me that totally doesn't give a shit about turning a year older. For sure. It's just a number, blah blah bullshit blah. The only thing that really gets me when it comes to turning 24 are all the expectations. Growing up, you have all these expectations for how your life will be when you're 16, 18, 21, 24, 25, etc. When I turned 16 and DIDN'T have a yellow BMW Bug, my own music video and a Neutrogena sponsorship, I was crushed. There was this huge part of me that thought I would be doing super cool things and being professionally awesome by the time I turned 24. I'm working on it, guys!!!! I guess we're never exactly where we thought we would be.

Anyway, every year I make a little list, "20 by 20" "24 by 24" whatever. But I always end up losing the list and forgetting all about it. I even started a 30 by 30 list on this blog but couldn't take it seriously enough. I have a hard time making goals that far in the future. Like, I can't even decide what I want for lunch today... Tough decisions, everyone. Well, now that I've got this fancy little blog, I can publish it on the internetz and you guys can hold me accountable! THIS IS WHY I LOVE LIVING IN THE YEAR 2012!!! Some of these are really simple and easy, some I know are definitely already going to happen, and others are kind of a long shot, or more personal development type goals. Still, I like having goals and whatnot because I'm a freak like that. It gives me something to strive for in the future. {Guess who cried when she didn't get straight A's as a child?} Plus listing is kind of one of my favorite hobbies. So listing + goals + birthdays = HOLY CRAP BALLS EXCITEMENT! Here goes...

1. Work at maintaining my long distance friendships. More Skype dates, phone calls, handwritten BFF love letters, etc.
2. Get my next {and 9th} tattoo- FINALLY.
3. Move to LA {Happening. DUH!}
4. Werk on my fitness- yoga, running, making sure my body doesn't crap out on me, etc.
5. Take a vacation with friends- BFFs and sunshine. Yes, plz.
6. Finish writing my collection of essays & publish them.
7. Drink water everyday. {I know this sounds silly, but it's really important to me and I NEVER do it.}
8. Make smart/adult decisions with my money.
9. Spend more time adventuring outdoors.
10. Learn how to do the Miley Cyrus Hoedown Throwdown.
11. Redesign my blog.
12. Trust my instincts more. Go with my gut. {My gut LOVES cheese & beer, so it can't ever be wrong, right?}
13. Cook an actual meal at least once a week/as much as possible.
14. Continue consistently blogging & staying true to myself in my writing.
15. Read more- like, actual quality books, for fun. {Not just 50 Shades of Grey and Twilight.}
16. Watch less TV. Be more productive. {Reality TV is obviously immune to this goal.}
17. Learn how to ride Penny without falling off every 30 seconds... Seriously, I have really weak ankles.
18. Take more pictures of everything. Develop said pictures & decorate my life with them.
19. Learn how to eat a meal at a restaurant by myself. {I think this has been on my list every year since I started doing these. One of these years I'm going to master it, damn it!}
20. Live in the moment as much as possible. Forget the past & stop worrying about the future.
21. Go balls to the wall & work my ass off on all things Shop Cheeky Cheeky
22. Put myself out there more & make more friends (both bloggers & real life)
23. Get better at returning emails.
24. Keep my room clean... Live in organized chaos.
25. Live a more creative & inspired life.

Hopefully you guys can join me on my journey to 25, as I check items off of this list. I wanted to put thinks like "Go skydiving!" and "Meet Lady Gaga" on my list, but half of the joy in having a list is actually being able to check shit off of it. Questionable goals tend to make me abandon ship. Like, obvi I'll meat Lady Gags, but skydiving? IDK, guys... IDK.

What about you guys- anyone else LOVE listing as much as I do? Have a 25 by 25, 29 by 29 or whatever list? Share it with me! I'd love to see your goals & get mad at myself for not thinking of them first :)

  1. What a wonderful list! I really like the learn how to eat a meal in a restaurant by yourself, I would just like to master seeing a movie solo!
    All of your goals are really do-able, but so is skydiving. I am a huge chicken and afraid of heights but I did it a couple of years ago and it was amazing! Re-think it for sure :)
    This morning I did a list of what I want to do this summer, check it out!

  2. Let's meet Lady Gags together and then call her Lady Gags to her face and see what happens. Maybe she'll give birth to a baby monster in front of us for us to care and love for life. Or maybe she'll just sing us a rousing rendition of Hair so I can whip my hair around in the name of being a youth. Let's do it!

  4. I actually just made one of these! My birthday is on Friday so I was going to publish it then, but I spent last night trying to come up with what I wanted to put. Some of yours remind me of what I decided on.
    Anyways, good luck with your goals. Hopefully you accomplish them all by your next birthday! :]

  5. I was freaking out about turning 22 on the way back from work today and then I randomly got angry at myself! I think I should embrace 22 be happy that I made it. That said I will probably still be slightly sad on my b-day that I'm not 18 and don't live a simple life where I don't have to worry about rent and bills... ah well. As for my own goals I want to do a couple of regular features on my blog, graduate and generally keep being creative!
    Good luck with yours!

  6. I love dining alone at restaurants. Sounds weird, but I do. The trick is to take a book, and go somewhere that isn't super busy all the time. Some pleaces will try to rush you out--give you the bill right away, keep dropping by to ask if you need anything (and not in the "good service" way, more in the "if you're done you need to leave" way). It seems like diners are pretty good for letting you linger. :)

    1. You're SO right. I feel like the right atmosphere and the right reading material would add up to an awesome solo meal. Definitely going to do it... one of these days :)

  7. These are such good goals! I want to take photographs, vacation, make friends, write, learn to write everyday, believe in what I write... That's it! You've convinced me, I'll do a 21 before 21 list, so what if my 21st is a little over six months away? Psshh...

    Good luck with these and have fun
