Mixtape Monday v2

I don't know why it is, but lately I've been listening to "oldies" nonstop. While I love me some Taylor Swift, and I've been known to get down to The Biebz on occasion, there's something so much more meaningful about classic tunes. I love knowing that no matter when I turn to them, this year, a decade from now, The Zombies will always be there, sounding the same- exceptional melodies. The classics are the classics for a reason. Granted, that label comes with time gone by. I mean, it's weird to think that the music we all grew up with will one day be considered "classics" or "oldies." Still, to me, the classics will always mean classic rock 'n' roll, doo-wop groups, soul singers and, more than anything, Buddy Holly.

Sometimes I think I get too caught up in trying to listen to every new artist coming out of Brooklyn/Silverlake/Kentucky that people are buzzing about. I mean, sure, it's "cool" to know about the most obscure indie band that Pitchfork is reviewing on any given week. But a little music history knowledge is way cooler in my book. I'll take Paul Simon over an unwashed hipster any day. Just a few of my favorites, to kick-start your Monday:

1. The Mamas & The Papas / Monday, Monday
2. The Shirelles / Mama Said
3. Nancy Sinatra / Sugar Town
4. Dusty Springfield / Stay Awhile
5. Neil Young / Heart Of Gold
6. Tommy James & The Shondells / Crimson and Clover
7. Linda Ronstadt / Desperado
8. Big Star / Thirteen
9. The Zombies / This Will Be Our Year
10. Paul Simon / Me And Julio Down By The Schoolyard
11. The Archies / Sugar, Sugar
12. Buddy Holly / Everyday

  3. I prefer older music a lot of the time, I listen to some of the 'new' stuff (which isn't really that new, I'm not down with the music kids...) but I love the old classics. Love this list, its the perfect soundtrack to my Monday night!
